Planning the Kids Magic Show
The Magic Fun Man show comes entirely self contained so the only thing you need to provide are the smiling kids, a 6×10 space to perform and enough room for the audience to sit. If you are having the party in a hall or restaurant, I recommend setting up chairs in front of the performance space so everyone has a great seat.
You don’t need to provide any additional equipment. The kids magic show arrives with all the tables, stands, sound, microphone, speakers and power needed to entertain everyone. The microphone and sound system are battery powered so no electricity is needed.
In some venues, a sound system already exists and I can always use another microphone to tap into the existing system if needed. For most family kid magic shows, no sound system is required but I bring one just in case we’re outside or there is loud background noise.
No additional tables or electricity is required. The Magic Fun Man show arrives with everything needed to entertain, amuse and generate a room full of laughter.
Other than providing a 6×10 space to perform and room for the audience to sit, you don’t need to prepare anything special. Some parents like to provide magic themed decorations.
Our recommendation is to plan for the magic show to start 30 minutes after the start of the party. Waiting 30 minutes after the party start time, allows enough time for any late arrivals and ensures everyone can enjoy the magic show.
A 6×10 performing space room for the audience to sit comfortably is sufficient. If the event is held at a restaurant or hall, it is very helpful to have the kids sit in chairs rather than sitting on the hall carpet or dance floor.

The Magic Fun Man schedule usually books up 3 weeks in advance. If you want to guarantee your date and time slot, please book the magic show early!
Performance Locations
Yes. The magic show can easily be performed in a park. It is helpful to have a covered pavilion, tent or other shelter for the audience and the performer.
It is better to enjoy the magic show indoors or at least under a covered pavilion or tent. I performed many magic shows in outdoor backyards and they go great as long as there is proper shade for the audience and the performance area.
Goodie Bags and Party Favors
With the Magic Fun Man show, I provide the birthday child with a professional magic wand and an official Grate Andy Magician’s Assistant award. Depending on the package you choose, I also provide all the kids with their own magic wand. After the magic show, the kids learn how to do a couple tricks with the magic wand.
I don’t provide Goodie bags although you can order party gifts and trinkets at Fun Express or Oriental Trading

Other Services
I don’t offer face painting but I can refer to some excellent face painters to augment your party experience. The Magic Fun Man show is a lot of fun and I don’t offer additional games. If you are looking for more entertainment after the magic show, I can offer the Balloon Animal Workshop or a Magic Class Workshop depending on the audience size and budget.
Face painting, caricature artists, cotton candy machine rentals and bounce houses are all additional enhancements that can complement a magician for a kids party. Contact us and we can refer a qualified face painter or caricature artist to complement the party!
Animals
Years ago, the Magic Fun Man show featured Harry D Dove – the world’s nosiest dove, but he has since passed on to greener pastures. For a short period of time, Bella and Spades were two rabbits that I had planned for the magic show, but they also passed on to visit the Big Bunny in the Sky.
Since then, the Magic Fun Man show hasn’t featured live animals. Live animals can be tricky with smaller kids as they can inadvertently scratch a child if the animals get startled. However, the Magic Fun Man show featuring The “Grate” Andy has a ton of laughter, magic and fun that doesn’t require a live animal. I do change the birthday child into a bunny but I turn the child back to their original self by the end of the show. It’s a lot of fun.
As mentioned above, I don’t use any live animals in the show primarily for the childrens’ safety and no animal likes being crammed in a box. The Magic Fun Man show does not use any fire or sharp objects and is 100% kid friendly. The magic show is a lot of fun and doesn’t require any dangerous or seemingly dangerous props.
Payment
For most events, I don’t require a deposit. For larger events, a 25% deposit is typically required.
Once your date and time has been confirmed, an invoice will be sent. You can pay the invoice ahead of the show via credit card or Venmo. If you’d like to pay cash, I can accept cash at the event.
Tipping is not necessary nor expected. If you feel I’ve gone above and beyond to make your event an outstanding one, any additional gratuity is appreciated. Honestly, I just want to ensure I’ve made the event a success and your party will add to the growing list of 5-Star reviews for the Magic Fun Man show!

The Magic Fun Man show serves the Metro Detroit Michigan area. If you are outside our main performing area, a small travel fee will be added to the total booking fee.
I usually travel within 50 miles of the Metro Detroit area. If you are outside that travel radius, I’ll add a small travel fee to cover the travel costs.

The Magic Fun Man Show – Our most popular 1-hour party package where the birthday child receives a Magician Assistant Certificate, every child receives a professional magic wand and they learn how to do a magic trick with our Teach-A-Trick segment. The magic show concludes with animal balloons for ALL THE KIDS!
The Big Show – the larger 90 minute party package including The Magic Fun Man Show, a magician assistant certificate, magic wands for ALL the Kids and your choice of a mini-magic class or a make your own animal balloon workshop.
Do you want more entertainment? Close-up magic or “strolling magic” can be added to any party package to add more entertainment to your event.

The cost for a magician will differ based on location, experience and event venue. For parents in Metro Detroit, they can expect to pay anywhere from $200 – $400 for a professional entertainer for a magic show. Additional services (animal balloons, games, etc) may be more.
I recommend hiring a professional magician with many years of experience and valid Google or Yelp reviews. If I am unable to perform at your event due to an existing booking, I’ll be sure to recommend one of my professional colleagues who have been performing for years and have a proven track record of excellent customer service.
If budget is an issue, you can always contact a local magic shop or magic club and ask to hire an amateur who needs more experience performing in front of a crowd. However, I recommend spending your money on an experienced professional magician in Metro Detroit with a proven track record of outstanding magic shows for kids!

I’ve got over 30 years of performing experience in the Metro Detroit area.
My interest in magic started at a young age and by the time I was 14, I started performing at children’s birthday parties. Providing family entertainment continued through high school, college and into my full time career. My sleight of hand skills were honed working several years as a close-up magician for Red Lobster and Max & Ermas. Yes. The magic show is designed to entertain the kids and parents for the entire time. The magic show, magic certificate presentation, magic wand teach-in, group photo and custom animal balloons provide enough entertainment for the scheduled time.
Absolutely! I often have twins or two children celebrating their birthday on the same day. When I have two guests of honor, I involve both kids in the magic show as they are both my magician’s assistants and each will receive their own personalized magician assistance certificate with their own magic wand. All the other kids also get to participate in the show so everyone feels like they’ve been involved with the magic show.
I perform at a lot of 1 year birthday parties throughout the year. The 1 year old is the guest of honor but the other kids at the party will actively participate in the magic show. A first year old birthday is a special event to celebrate and Kapoof Entertainment’s Magic Fun Man Show is a great addition to the event!
In the Winter and Fall, you’ll see The Grate Andy in his comic book themed coat. During the Summer months, the coat is a little too hot for our Michigan summers, so you’ll see me in a well dressed shirt that fits the occasion.

Most family magic show runs 30 minutes to 45 minutes in length for an actual performance. Magicians may vary the performance time to accommodate the age of the audience and their attention span.
The length of the Magic Fun Man runs approximately 40 minutes in length and is then followed by the Magic Wand workshop and Animal Balloons. The total run time for our most popular package is just under 1 hour. Parents might be surprised that I can keep young kids entertained the entire time, but the Magic Fun Man show is written to keep everyone entertained and paying attention.
As mentioned, the show runs 40 minutes in length and is followed with the magic certificate, magic wand presentation and animal balloons. Depending on the number of kids, I will be there for 1 hour to 1 ¼ to ensure all kids get an animal balloon.
Most birthday parties last 2 to 2.5 hours in length. I recommend having the magic show approximately 30 minutes after your guests arrive. Starting 30 minutes into the party provides enough time for late guests to arrive and lets the host get the pizza or cake ready. After the show, the host usually serves lunch or a snack and then cake. It is preferred to have the show before food is served because the magic show encourages multiple volunteers and sticky hands don’t go well with magic wands!
The magic show sets up in under 10 minutes and packs up just as quickly. I bring everything needed to perform the show. No additional tables are required.
There is no limit to the number of children but the pricing of the show will vary based on the number of children and audience members (for larger events). Since each child receives a magic wand and a balloon animal, larger party sizes increase the cost due to extra wands and materials provided. Absolutely. I tailor the show to the audience so if the audience is younger, the tricks will be adjusted to their age level. If the audience has older kids in the audience, I adjust the tricks so they are guaranteed to entertain the adults and the kids. With over 30 years of performing experience, we know what kids like and how to keep them entertained and roaring with laughter.
The Magic Fun Man show is a unique magic show that includes a lot of surprises, laughs, mini-games and a unique effect where I turn the child into a bunny (don’t worry – the child doesn’t ACTUALLY turn into a rabbit but it’s HILARIOUS). The show is kid friendly and is designed to get laughs from the kids and the adults. Parents enjoy the show because they see how much fun their kids are having at the magic show.
Absolutely! The guest of honor will be featured in the show in multiple tricks and at the end, the guest of honor receives a magic certificate honoring them as an official Grate Andy Magician’s assistant. Other kids are featured in the show and there are multiple opportunities for everyone to participate in the magic show.

Age Group
Kapoof Entertainment provides family friendly magic shows that are written for kids ranging from 4 – 11 but parents and older kids will also enjoy the magic show. The magic show features comedy for everyone although it is targeted for 4 – 11 year olds. If the children are younger, they will still enjoy the visual aspects of the show, but I’d recommend hiring a costume character rather than a magician.
Our birthday party packages are written for 4 – 11 year olds although a few 12 year old would appreciate the show. If the child is 12 years or older, I recommended our magic class or balloon workshop.
If you would like Kapoof Entertainment to provide entertainment for kids that are older than the 4-11 age group, then I’d recommend our Magic Class or Balloon Workshop. Both options provide entertainment for an older audience and the teenagers get to learn how to perform some magic in addition to enjoy a close-up magic show.
Cancellation Policy
A performance can be canceled up to two weeks before the performance date. If the show is canceled within less than two weeks the client is responsible for payment of the full fee but I will be happy to apply the fee to a future date.
